MEETING THE HIGHEST ENVIRONMENTAL STANDARDS IN BUILDING
WHAT IS A LIVING BUILDING CHALLENGE?
The Living Building Challenge is a philosophy, advocacy tool and certification program created in 2006. It is the most ecologically sound and rigorous building certification, comprising of seven performance areas: site, water, energy, health, materials, equity and beauty. The Living Building Challenge at Wolf Ridge ELC will be the first in the region, and the northernmost in the country to attempt full LBC certification.
WHAT ADDITIONAL EDUCATION DOES THIS PROVIDE?
Beauty inspires people to connect and to take care. The Margaret A. Cargill Lodge will serve as a teaching tool in constructing sustainable buildings and ongoing conservation efforts. This will have a National impact for visitors staying at Wolf Ridge from all across the country.
CONSERVATION & SUSTAINABILITY
The Living Building Challenge is not just about creating the building. It is about Living in the building and Challenging yourself to be more responsible with nature. Utilizing technologies built into every room, visitors will be able to monitor personal energy and water consumption to become better informed stewards of the earth. Our goal at Wolf Ridge is to make a lasting impression on all of our visitors and inspire global citizens to create change.
Wolf Ridge is a 501(c)3 environmental learning center that relies on donations as part of its operating expense. The making waves campaign will require raising 9.4M in donations to be fully funded. The good news is we are almost there, and now that you’re here we are even closer.

CERTAINTEED INSULATIONMEMBRAIN AIR BARRIER
Moisture in homes is unavoidable, making moisture in wall cavities nearly inevitable – and dangerous if not properly addressed. CertainTeed’s MemBrain™ Continuous Air Barrier & Smart Vapor Retarder is the industry’s most advanced technology to create a better performing home.
In “mixed-climate” parts of the country, where homes heat in the winter and cool in the summer, homes using traditional polyethylene vapor retarders may actually trap moisture in the cavity during the summer – raising the risk of costly moisture and mold issues, structural damage, health consequences and liability.
